Townhall

Today some of them Microsoft higher-up types announced some changes to the compensation and review system. I don't have all the details, but overall this seems like a positive set of changes. Getting rid of "the curve" seems to be the thing that most people are liking. However, this ends up being a relatively minor change. It will remove the need to label some people as "underperforming" when they really aren't. The other thing is does is remove the possibility of getting screwed on the curve and then having to explain it to a new group. On a cogent personal aside, I basically left the last team I was on because they gave me a 3.5 on my review. However, I got a good (though only by current MS standards) raise, bonus, and stock award. Without the score, maybe I don't leave. Of course, the cliquish nature of the group and the lack of accountability would still have been there so maybe I still do. And getting reorged into Indigo Land, where the reality distortion field and lack of accountability is palpable, yeah, I think I still move on.

Towels, supplies, dry cleaning, etc. - yeah, cool, bring 'em on. All minor, but all good. And good is good.

Bigger potential stock awards for high performers - can't complain about this. I'm sure a bunch of schmucks will get these awards, but some good people should as well. So that's good news.

Management accountability - I'll believe it when I see it. It would be interesting if we even know what some of the senior management were being judged on. Like, let's say you caused millions of man-hours of lost productivity pushing a technology idea that was clearly a disaster waiting to happen right from the beginning. And let's say that technology is called WinFS. Who is accountable for that? And how is it that they are being held accountable? How about the flaming sack that is Indigo?

Process transparency - anyone who didn't know how the process works wasn't trying. All you have to do is read mini.

I think that's all I know about. Again, goodness. The really interesting info won't be available until the 30th. That's when managers will find out what the various raise/bonus/award numbers are. Those numbers not sucking like the last 3 years will do well more to raise morale.

Changing the Google Ads on My Page

All I have to do is mention stuff and the Google ads immediately think that anyone interested in that subject will surf to my page and click on an ad. Let's try it! Hmm...

It is night time

And my Internet works. I'm really thinking that ComCast is just getting lucky here though. Hopefully their luck continues though. I am tired of Internet troubles dominating my thoughts.

Pulled a bunch of weeds and calibrated my sprinkler system a bit this evening. My yard is over 300% more boss than when Denise and I moved in. However, there are still improvements to be made this summer.

Earlier while weeding I had a thought for a reality television show. The basis would be "high stakes farming". I honestly have no idea what that means. But I love the idea of a lot of drama, tension, and suspense around farming. Having been involved in farming, I can assure you that adding those qualities would be no easy task.

Clippers v. Suns

Man, I am not sure who to favor in this series. I like them both. But, I think I have decided that the Clippers are my boys. As long as Elton Brand is there I think I have to root for them. Unless they get all retarded again and decide to get rid of anyone who actually is a quality player. Their current lineup is pretty badass actually. I think talentwise they are close, but not quite, on par with the Dallas-San Antonio-Detroit triumvirate of superior teams. The only thing that bothers me is that Brand is not as "undeniable" as Jordan-Kobe-Timmy-LeBron. Brand seems to be a little too predictable one-on-one still. And the other dudes don't quite seem to believe in themselves. But overall, this team should be able to hang with any team in the league. They really need to learn how to play D though. With their size they should be able to keep teams at 85, but they seem to get confused on D too often. Anyway, they are my boys.

My team won tonight. We were in control all game. Actually, it was almost boring because there are really never any doubt. I think I scored 12 of our 41. The bucket I'm most proud of is that I made a steal right handed, ran hard dribbling right handed the whole time, and laid it up right handed as well. For those of you who have not tried to guard the Fro one-on-one, I am highly left hand dominate. In fact, I can guarantee to all first time defenders that I'm going to get an easy layup on you to my left on the first possession. In your face, fool!

My ping tool is telling me I am disconnected, but hopefully this works anyway. ComCast has given me lots of free shit through my complaining, but I'm not sure yet if I care. Qwest DSL is looking appealing. Word 'em up.

Dear ComCast

You are the type of poop that smells bad and is not satisfying to take. Randomly I was just getting a 15% drop rate on pings. WTF? Why should I not spank all of you?

Food!

Oh man! I am really hungry! I am desperately trying to get some stuff done at work so that I can then leave and watch the ever-more exciting Lakers v. Suns series. I hope the Suns win tonight just so that there will be another game. In the end, I want to see the Lakers v. Clippers "hallway" series just so that we'll never have to imagine what it will be like again. Personally my imagining of it is that it will be a very close series that the Clippers will will because the Lakers have no one to handle Brand and Kaman.

Sweet. My test cases are passing so I'm going to get out of here.

The Home

I have arrived. Most recently I was at Vivace. But now am I at the Home and I've already got the home pants fully operational. Shortly I'll be in fully relaxed mode.

As it turns out, a woman I met a few weeks ago is j0mammma.blogspot.com. Just imagine meeting a random person and finding out that they use the Internets as well. Totally crazy, I know! I think she must use the Internets a lot because he spelling is all l33t style. I'm surprised her name isn't like j0^^^^a or j0/\/\/\/\ or something. These kids!

Tired time!
